Investigation on hydraulic-mechanical properties in bentonite-sand mixture with consideration of salinity water

چکیده
Bentonite with fine components much such as extremely expansive soil has been commonly required buffer/backfill materials in order to prevent seepage for construction of further deep geologicalrepository disposal high-level radioactive waste (i.e. HLW). The buffer received significant hydromechanical efforts from host rock at underground environment. While the construction/maintenance long-time operation a repository, it was predicted that high compacted bentonite will be progressively hydration due pore water flow or infiltrated surrounding rock. purpose this study is establish connection among basic mechanical properties, retention characters and chemical couple properties under unsaturated condition saturated conditions bentonite-sand mixture. This conducted out some testing programs, which are soil-water characteristic curve test, unconfined compression creep test triaxial sodium sand mixture In addition, influence salinity on considered comparison subjected swelled distilled water.

Determining the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of a compacted sand-bentonite mixture under constant volume and free-swell conditions
Highly compacted sand-bentonite mixtures are often considered as possible engineered barriers in deep high-level radioactive waste disposals. In-situ, the saturation of these barriers from their initially unsaturated state is a complex hydro-mechanical coupled process in which temperature effects also play a role. The key parameter of this process is the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity of th...
متن کاملMechanical Properties of Plastic Concrete Containing Bentonite
Plastic concrete consists of aggregates, cement, water and bentonite, mixed at a high water cement ratio, to produce a ductile material. It is used for creating an impermeable barrier (cut-off wall) for containment of contaminated sites or seepage control in highly permeable dam foundations. The effects of water to binder ratio and clay dosage on mechanical properties of plastic concrete were i...
متن کاملFingering Instability in a Water-Sand Mixture
The temporal evolution of a water-sand interface driven by gravity is experimentally investigated. By means of a Fourier analysis of the evolving interface the growth rates are determined for the different modes appearing in the developing front. To model the observed behavior we apply the idea of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability for two stratified fluids. Carrying out a linear stability analysi...
متن کاملTemperature Effects on Geotechnical and Hydraulic Properties of Bentonite Hydrated with Inorganic Salt Solutions
This study investigated the combined effect of temperature and single-species salt solutions on geotechnical properties (swell index and liquid limit) and hydraulic conductivity of bentonite applying different cation types, concentrations, and temperatures. Results showed that both the swell index and the liquid limit decreased with an increase in salt concentration irrespective of the type of ...
متن کاملPhysico-Mechanical Properties of Organo-Modified Bentonite Reinforced Cement Mortars
It is demonstrated that the addition of organo-modified Na-bentonite (OMB) particles to Portland cement mortar can promote its physical and mechanical properties. A series of experimental works on some important physico-mechanical properties of Portland cement mortars mixed with various dosages of hydrophobic OMB were performed. The obtained results confirm that the OMB provides a dense packing...
